Residents urged to save water

This is a summary. To read the whole story subscribe to BostonGlobe.com

The town’s Public Works Water Division is urging residents and business owners to conserve water through the end of August. Seasonal water use, such as outdoor irrigation systems and sprinklers, accounts for two-thirds of the water used each day from mid-June through mid-September. Andover is recognized as a Greenscapes community. As such, the town encourages residents and business owners to use Andover’s drinking water resources in a responsible manner. During the summer months, water can be conserved by using rain barrels to supply it on a sunny day, watering only at dawn or after dusk, or shutting off irrigation systems when the weather forecast calls for rain. For more information and conservation tips, visit www.greenscapes.org or pick up Greenscapes materials at Memorial Hall Library, 2 North Main St., or the town offices, 36 Bartlet St.
