All Memorial Middle School students will have iPads next school year, according to Superintendent Kathleen Tyrell. The district piloted the idea with sixth-graders in the 2012-2013 school year, and “it was so successful we are expanding it to the entire middle school,” she said. “In terms of student engagement and academic achievement and outcomes — and students taking responsibility for their own learning — we are seeing results. We put our toe in the water, and now we are jumping in.” Tyrell said the cost for the devices and additional wiring in the building is about $90,000.
