New leader named at Glastonbury Abbey

Over the nearly 60 years of Glastonbury Abbey’s existence in Hingham, thousands of people have been drawn to the wooded site for its isolation, spirituality and peace. In that time, the monks of the abbey have been led by two abbots.

Father Thomas O’Connor will be the third abbot in Glastonbury history, having recently been elected to the position by his brother monks. A formal ritual, the “Blessing of an Abbot,” is scheduled for Aug. 11, with the honor bestowed on him by Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston.
