Police chief search off again

Selectmen voted 3-2 last month to suspend the search for a police chief, a process that has been on and off since March. Proponents argued that the decision should be delayed until selectmen name a permanent town manager, another contentious issue. Selectmen Diane Kennedy and Steve Gaumer argued against the delay, saying the board should stay clear of personnel matters. Acting Police Chief William Quigley has been in the position since the spring of 2012 when the town’s acting town manager suspended Mark DeLuca, whose contract was not renewed this past January. DeLuca has since sued to get his job back. He was in a serious motorcycle accident in Rockland on July 12, and last week remained in the intensive care unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
