In an effort to conserve water, the use of automated lawn irrigation systems, sprinklers, soaker hoses, and other unattended devices has been banned by the Norwell Water Department until further notice. Residents may use hand-held hoses between 5 and 9 a.m. and between 5 and 9 p.m. While filling swimming pools is not permitted, topping them off to “replace naturally evaporated water” is allowed with permission from the water department. Residents using a private well for lawn irrigation must place a prominently displayed sign near the street that reads “private well.” “Your cooperation will eliminate the need for more restrictive measures and assure an adequate supply of water for health, safety, and essential uses of our water resource,” a statement from the Water Department said. “Violators will be subject to fines, interruption of water service, or both.” For more information, contact the Norwell Water Department at 781-659-8076.
