The MetroWest Anti-Casino Coalition has hired Green International Affiliates Inc. of Westford to review the traffic impact study done for the proposed Foxwoods Massachusetts casino off Interstate 495 and Route 16 in Milford. The Milford Board of Selectmen appears ready to sign a host community agreement with the casino, but coalition chairman Brian Herr, a selectman in Hopkinton, said it is important for Milford residents to hear from consultants “not paid for by the developer” before voting on the proposal. As part of the process established by the state, Foxwoods reimbursed Milford for the cost to review the casino’s impact on traffic, water, sewers, the environment, crime, social issues, and the economy. While Milford’s consultants and town department heads agreed with the findings of Foxwoods’ engineers, traffic has continued to be a contentious issue, with opponents still questioning the projected impact along Route 16. The MetroWest Anti-Casino Coalition, made up of selectmen from Hopkinton, Holliston, Medway, and Ashland, has indicated it will also hire consultants to review the economic and social impacts of the proposed $1 billion resort casino complex.
