The city is holding a preliminary election Tuesday. Voting hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A three-way race for mayor is among four contests requiring a preliminary election, which are held to trim the fields for the final two-candidate election. Contending in the mayor’s race are incumbent Kimberley L. Driscoll; Kenneth A. Sawicki, who lost to Driscoll in 2009; and Cedric A. Ashley Jr., a political newcomer. The other preliminary races are an eight-way competition for three School Committee seats and three-way contests for Ward 4 councilor and Ward 6 councilor. The final election is Nov. 5.
