After years of discussion and several false starts, Foxborough voters will be asked at a Nov. 4 Special Town Meeting to authorize spending $550,000 to design and seek bids for a new town hall building

If the request is approved, an article to follow at the May Town Meeting will ask residents to appropriate the full cost of construction – preliminarily estimated at around $8 million — to tear down the old South Street facility and replace it with a modern municipal building.

It’s an ambitious timeline, officials said, and one they hope is doable.

Selectmen and members of the town’s Municipal Building Committee have agreed that new construction is needed, but the concern now is whether the town’s Advisory Committee, which vets all warrant articles, can research the project, and six other issues, before the November meeting.
