Longtime coach gone, but not far

Nancy Slocum was never thrilled to be leaving her post at Concord Carlisle, where she had coached girls’ soccer at varsity level since 1997.

But her family came calling, and for the first time in 16 years, Slocum left her teenage charges in somebody else’s hands in early September.

But in a way, she hasn’t left.

At one point, in a 1-0 Dual County Small win over Wayland, Allie Barrett noticed someone standing on the sidelines.

Slocum was there watching.

So while the players are adjusting to a different defensive system under the direction of new head coach Peter Fischelis, and are off to a 3-0 start, they know that their former mentor, still teaching at the school, is close by.
