The town of Georgetown and the Essex County Greenbelt Association announced earlier this month that they would jointly purchase a $250,000 conservation restriction on the 18-acre Wheeler Brook Farm, at 57 Jewett St. Residents authorized $150,000 in funds from the Community Preservation Act at May’s annual Town Meeting, which was combined with a recent $95,000 award to Greenbelt from the US Department of Agriculture’s Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, and a $5,000 grant from the Davis Conservation Foundation. The land, which is owned by Robert and Barbara Morehouse, offers a self-service farm stand and pick-your-own berries. It is c0-managed by their granddaughter Abi Langsner and Andrew Murray. “This conservation restriction will permanently protect this family farm’s natural and agricultural resources and enable future generations to continue, and even expand, farm operations,” said Vanessa Johnson, Greenbelt’s assistant director of land conservation, in a prepared statement.
