A registered sex offender was arrested Friday in Brookline and is being held without bail on charges of open and gross lewdness after he allegedly exposed himself to juveniles at a public library, police said.

John Beyers, 67, of 1848 Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton, is set to be arraigned Monday in Brookline District Court, Brookline Police Lieutenant Philip Harrington said in a statement. He is considered a Level 3 sex offender, which indicates a “risk of reoffense is high.”

At approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to reports that a man had exposed himself inside the Brookline library at Coolidge Corner, said Harrington. Later that afternoon, Beyers was identified and arrested.
