Even though there have not been any malicious incidents on Peabody school buses, the School Committee has voted to hire two bus monitors in order to keep it that way, according to a member of the board.
Each monitor will be paid $7,000 a year.
School Committee member David McGeney said the monitors’ assignments will be rotated on an “as need basis should any incidents arise.”
“We don’t have a real problem with bad behavior on buses right now and we want to keep it that way,” McGeney said.
Although the committee voted unanimously to hire the two monitors, Superintendent Joe Mastrocola said the funds could be more useful elsewhere.
“Money would be better used in the system, but I’m willing to comply with the School Committee,” Mastrocola said. “This is 117th on the list.” Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
