The developer of SouthField has unveiled its new plan for the former naval property, including revamping the development’s governing body, rewriting the master plan, and eliminating some components of the massive project, such as the much-touted 18-hole golf course.
Officials from Starwood Land Ventures LLC say such changes are necessary to successfully redevelop the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station into a campus-style community that could someday include up to 2,855 homes and 2 million feet of commercial space.
Starwood’s attorneys are drafting legislation that would appoint a new committee to oversee the project and provide more leeway on how to develop the property, which straddles the towns of Abington, Rockland, and Weymouth. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
