Jim Kelliher stood intently, his arms crossed as his watched his Abington High football team run a play on a practice field one afternoon last week.

The 43-year head coach reached for a whistle that hung from a green string around his neck, just below a pair of dark amber glasses, and stopped play with a “Go Again” order that echoed off nearby trees.

His commanding presence was on full display early on during his team’s 46-20 game at Norwell, when Kelliher yelled so fiercely about a bad play he exhaled mist.

The Abington alum (Class of 1966) Kelliher has directed the Green Wave to a 4-1 start after last year’s perfect 13-0 run, culminating with an EMass. Division 4 Super Bowl title. Their only loss this season came against Division 2 power Duxbury.
