The new veterans memorial park on the town common is officially in place. The park, created by the Allied Veterans Council, was scheduled to be formally dedicated in a ceremony on Saturday. The project involved erecting five new flag poles next to the existing veterans monuments. Each pole, which faces an existing pole with an American flag, will fly one of the flags of the five military service branches. The veterans council, composed of the town’s four veterans groups, also built a brick pathway connecting the site to the existing walkway on the common and installed lights to illuminate the flags at night. A brick patio with planters and a small brick wall was built behind the flag poles. Bronze markers were installed at the base of the flag poles to recognize donors to the project and those whose names they memorialized.
