The Department of Public Works will hold its annual Zero Waste Recycling Weekend next Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the High School parking lot near the tennis courts on Cabot Road. The event is intended as a local observance of America Recycles Day, scheduled this year for Nov. 15. Danvers is joining with the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, Got Books, JRM Hauling and Recycling Services, and XTechnology Global for the program. Residents can drop off bagged clothing, shoes, purses, linen, stuffed animals, and small toys with Big Brother Big Sister; and books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, audio books, and records with Got Books. XTechnology Global will collect electronic items, including televisions and computer monitors, while JRM will accept confidential papers for shredding. The town will accept metal items such as file cabinets, grills, and bicycles, as well as rigid plastic items, while on Saturday only, Danvers Cub Scout Pack 16 will collect redeemable plastic bottles and cans. For more information, including fees, go to the Department of Public Works page on the town’s website, www.danvers.govoffice.com, or call 978-777-0001, ext. 3011.
