Beginning Wednesday, Gloucester will be placing all properties with outstanding taxes for prior fiscal years into tax title. Once a property moves into the tax title process, it can result in higher interest rates, court fees, and, in the worst cases, potential foreclosure on the property. Gloucester’s chief financial officer Jeff Towne said the intention, however, is to keep people up to date on their tax payments. “Our goal is to work with taxpayers,” he said. Property owners with overdue taxes wishing to avoid the process should contact the collector’s office at 978-281-9735 or log on to www.gloucester-ma.gov to pay online.
