Coach Kevin Cobban sized up the matchup in simple terms before his Plymouth North football team took on rival Plymouth South for the second of three meetings this season.

Both teams were going to run the ball, it was just a matter of execution.

Foresight wasn’t enough, however.

South’s ground game, fueled by stalwart senior Dylan Oxsen (166 yards on 39 carries) proved to be more adept. Oxsen overcame a pair of fumbles to score the Panthers’ lone touchdown in a 7-6 victory in the Division 3 Southeast final Friday night.

South will play Stoughton in the Division 3 state semifinals Friday night at Brockton High. With its late elimination from the playoffs, North will have a bye this weekend before facing South, again, in their traditional Thanksgiving Day matchup.
