A man was struck and killed by a motor vehicle Saturday night while walking on a sidewalk in Mattapan, according to police.
Boston Police responded to 645 Cummins Highway at 8:37 p.m. after receiving a radio report of the crash, police said in a statement on their website.
The victim was pronounced dead on scene, the statement said.
A fire hydrant remained toppled over this afternoon on the sidewalk in front of Crest Liquors where the man was struck.
One man, who would not provide his name, said he saw the victim leaving the liquor store before being struck by an SUV that jumped the curb.
“It was just a freak accident,” he said.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene after the incident, according to Boston Police Officer Nicole Grant. No charges have been filled, she said.
The identities of the driver and the victim were not released. The crash remains under investigation and no other details were immediately available.
