Construction has finally begun on a $570,000 renovation of James Edgar Park, a year after the city received grants to pay for the work. The Parks Department has closed the park, bordered by Brook, Dover, South Fuller, and Winthrop streets, until the project is completed. Funding for renovations comes from a $400,000 state Parkland Acquisition and Renovations for Communities grant, a municipal match of $157,000 from federal Community Development Block Grants, and a $10,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation for the construction of a skate park. Grants are funding playground equipment, volleyball and basketball courts, as well as parking areas, storage and bathroom facilities, benches, and drainage for the field where American Legion games are played.
