Eight-alarm fire sweeps through South Boston building on Summer Street; no injuries reported

Boston firefighters working on the South Boston building fire this afternoon have turned their attention to third and fourth floors of the Summer Street building where the fire continues to burn in heavy wooden support beams, officials said.

Amid concerns about the integrity of the five-story building at 327-333 Summer St. which has been burning since around 4:30 a.m. today, firefighters are staying outside of the building and instead using powerful streams of water through the windows and onto the beams, said Steve MacDonald, department spokesman.
