Fatal Sutton attack followed fight over no phone call, police say

A Sutton man is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Wednesday in the beating death of his girlfriend. Thomas O. Starefos, 49, was charged with manslaughter and assault and battery, domestic, during an appearance at Uxbridge District Court Monday. Starefos was arrested at his home shortly after he called 911 at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Police and fire responders found Colleen Butler, 60, lying in a puddle of blood on the kitchen floor. A paramedic pronounced the victim dead around 11 p.m., according to court documents. Starefos said that Butler, his live-in girlfriend, attacked him for not calling her. Starefos allegedly said he punched Butler while defending himself, according to a Sutton police complaint.
