The Friends of the Southern New England Trunkline Trail organization has received a grant from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation toward a number of improvements on the 22-mile recreational path.
The agency is providing $22,000 to pay for cutting overhanging branches, trimming undergrowth, and regrading the trail surface in certain areas, as well as the creation of a development plan for the trail, which runs between Franklin and Douglas. The study would take stock of the condition of the trail and related structures, and prepare a three-year partnership strategy with the six host communities and the National Park Service to bring the trail to its full recreational potential.
