A pit bull terrier that was walking on the commuter rail tracks near the JFK/UMass Red Line Station this morning was rescued by an MBTA Transit Police Officer, officials said.
The officer was approached at the Savin Hall Station around 10 a.m. by a concerned person who had seen the dog, Transit Police said.
The officer bicycled to the station and was able to coax the dog away from the tracks, Transit police said.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston now has custody of the dog. Anyone with information is asked to call the league at 617-426-9170 or the Transit Police Special Crimes Unit at 617-222-1170.
