A proposal for a 130-room hotel on Route 9 received Zoning Board of Appeals approval earlier this month. The Homewood Suites by Hilton project at 111 Boylston St., part of the old Red Cab headquarters site, is being developed by Bridgewater-based Claremont Cos. The hotel, which will cater to guests staying an average of three days, will have five stories along Boylston, and be lower at the rear of the property, near the MBTA’s Green Line tracks and a residential neighborhood. The proposal has garnered little opposition, and on Dec. 5 the zoning board unanimously approved special permits and sign variances for the building. The developer has said it hopes to start construction work in the spring.
