The nonprofit People Helping People is appealing to the community for additional donations needed to help families displaced by the Oct. 23 fire at the Lord Baron apartment complex on Baron Park Lane. While no one was injured in the fire, portions of the property sustained heavy damage and 39 families had to seek temporary housing at local hotels. People Helping People has been assisting the displaced residents with their hotel bills and meeting other emergency needs. To date, the organization has spent $15,213 on housing assistance, and $1,170 on gift cards at local stores. As of this past week, according to the group, four families were still in hotels and it could be another month before they are able to return to their apartments — in the case of one family possibly even longer. All four families are contributing to their hotel bills. People Helping People said it needs help from the community to continue doing its share. To make a contribution, send a check payable to People Helping People at P.O. Box 343, Burlington, MA 01803.
