Ready for more snow?
The National Weather Service says 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected to fall Tuesday and Tuesday night, likely arriving after the morning commute but before the afternoon commute, meaning it could be a long slog home.
There is a possibility of as much as 6 inches of snow, the forecasters said.
Meanwhile, today will bring temperatures in the 20s and blustery winds — and tonight will feature bitter cold.
“Today will have bright sunny skies; however, the sunshine will not make things real warm,” said Alan Dunham, weather service meteorologist. “We are looking at temperatures around 9 degrees overnight in Boston and with wind chills it will feel below zero. Anybody going out tonight is going to want to bundle up.”
Tuesday’s snow is expected to commence at around 11 a.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy and temperatures shouldn’t crest above 30. Snow showers will taper off around 4 p.m., followed by a lull in the weather. Another burst of snow showers will enter the state overnight. A light west wind will gust around 10 miles per hour through the day.
“Showers will be pretty steady throughout the day,” Dunham said. “We are looking at 2 to 4 inches in greater Boston, maybe a little more.”
The snow could tangle up the Tuesday afternoon commute, Dunham said. The Cape and islands may end up with little snow, but most of the region should see at least a few inches.
There is a small chance that 5 to 6 inches will fall, forecasters said.
Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 32. A west wind could gust around 13 miles per hour, making temperatures feel in the teens, according to the weather service. Conditions will remain clear overnight and temperatures will fall into the low 20s.
The cold continues Thursday, with partly sunny skies and temperatures settling in the mid-30s. Clouds will develop overnight and temperatures will fall into the upper 20s, according to the weather service.
A low pressure system will likely spread across the region Friday, bringing temperatures to around 47. Skies will remain cloudy, and showers are possible overnight. Temperatures will fall into the upper 30s overnight, according to the weather service.
