Boston police officers are warning residents about a phone scam in which people receive calls claiming a family member has been in a car crash.
Police said the caller tells victims they must wire money in order for their relative to receive medical care.
No one has been duped by the scam, police said.
Several of these calls have been reported over the past four months, according to police, who said officers are actively investigating the reports.
Anyone with information on the calls can call Boston police anonymously at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477), or text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
