A new New Year’s Eve tradition may be starting in town with the inaugural First Night Lantern Walk, sponsored by the Friends of Holliston Trails. The walk will begin Tuesday at 5 p.m. and last until 8 p.m., timed to end early enough for young children and leaving time for adults to attend other celebrations. There are two options for the evening: a 1.25-mile trek from Blair Square to Phipps Tunnel under Highland Street, or a quarter-mile route from the Phillips 66 station at Cross and Washington streets that meets the other group at the tunnel. Music, hot chocolate, and other treats will be provided. The event is free, but the nonprofit committee, which supports the town’s efforts for a recreational rail trail, will be selling flashlights as a fund-raiser, and donations will be welcome. For more information or to RSVP for the event, see the Friends of Holliston Trails page at www.facebook.com. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
