The Jones River Watershed Association in Kingston will host a series of presentations on the effects of rising sea levels on the South Shore, beginning next week. Principal engineer Andre Martecchini of Kleinfelder Associates,a former Duxbury selectman, will speak on sea level projections Jan. 9. Information on rising sea levels and maps of projected sea level rises over the next 25, 50, and 75years will be presented to provide context for the rest of the lecture series. The series will also address how to prepare for serious storms in coastal communities; the importance of wetlands and dunes in reducing coastal damage; the stress on area marshes from sea level rise; and how to decide if elevating a home makes sense. The final session will discuss community preparations for climate change impact. Programs will be held every other Thursday at the Jones River Landing, 55 Landing Road, at 7 p.m. in January, February, and March. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
