Residents looking for an introduction to yoga are invited to a series of three classes being offered by the library in January. Yoga for Beginners, taught by Karen Damiecki, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 17, 24, and 31 in the library’s community room. This is the first time the library has offered yoga classes, according to Amanda Viana, the library’s assistant director and information services librarian. “We were thinking about the New Year and having programs where people can actually make or do things rather the traditional lecture format,” she said in an interview. “And with the new year, a lot of people are looking to de-stress after the holidays and get in shape, so we reached out to Karen Damiecki, and she was able to set up a series of three classes for us.” Viana said that if there is interest, the library would offer more yoga classes in the future. The January classes are free and open to the public, but registration is required. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
