Martin Luther King Day observance planned

A citywide observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be held on Jan. 20. People’s AME Church of Chelsea is organizing the annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration breakfast at Chelsea High School, 299 Everett Ave. Diane Patrick, wife of Governor Deval Patrick, will serve as keynote speaker at the event, whose theme is “Achieving Our Dream: Building Character and Community.” Doors will open at 9 a.m. for a continental breakfast, with the program set for 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to speakers, the event will feature award presentations and a performance by the Chelsea High School Cantare, a multiethnic student choir. Following the breakfast, the public is invited to take part in an outreach effort toward the homeless that the church is organizing as part of the annual National Day of Service program linked to the holiday.
