A pretrial detainee was found dead early Sunday morning inside the Nashua Street Jail in Boston’s West End, authorities said.
A corrections officer found the man apparently sleeping “in what appeared to be an awkward position” during regularly scheduled rounds at about 2:30 a.m., according to a statement released by Peter Van Delft, spokesman for Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins.

Boston Emergency Medical Services soon arrived, and pronounced the man dead at about 2:55 a.m., Van Delft said.
