Two people died last week of heroin overdoses in the South Shore town of Carver, and police there are urging residents suffering from drug addiction to seek help.
“This insidious problem again shows how dangerous it can really be,” Carver Police Chief Marc R. Duphily said today in a statement.
The two Carver residents, a 33-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, died in separate incidents between Thursday and Saturday of last week, police said.
Carver police are working to establish a phone and online tip line for residents to submit information on drug abuse in the town. Police also recently arrested a man accused of dealing oxycodone.
Justin Braswell of Carver was arrested Friday after a search of his vehicle uncovered a large quantity of pills, later identified as the drug oxycodone.
Braswell was charged with drug possession and possession with intent to distribute drugs and was held over the weekend at Carver police headquarters. He was arraigned at Wareham District Court Monday but did not submit a plea. He asked that his arraignment be continued to Feb. 3, a clerk at the court said.
