New regulations governing what’s allowed at town cemeteries go into effect on Feb. 1, following a review by the Cemetery Commission and the Department of Public Works. Changes recently approved by the Board of Selectmen include restrictions, based on safety and aesthetics, on what types of items can be placed on individual plots. According to town officials, owners will be allowed only an 18-inch planting area in front of a monument. Shrubs, trees, mulch, borders, and other decorative items cannot be placed at the side or back of the stone. Modifications to the rules are set to be enforced beginning July 1, along with a new fee structure. For more information, contact the cemetery department at 781-320-1037, or e-mail the Department of Public Works at email@example.com.
