A mild day today, with some scattered snow showers, will be followed by a surge of arctic air tonight, expected to drop temperatures well below normal through midweek.
Cloudy skies will help temperatures climb to an above-normal 39 degrees by this afternoon. A cold front will arrive tonight, causing temperatures to plunge near 11 degrees with wind chills as low as minus-5.
“We’re cold through Wednesday, but we’ll start moderating on Thursday and will get to near normal for Friday and this weekend,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Simpson.
Sunlight will prevail Wednesday, with highs only reaching the mid-20s. Skies will remain clear through the evening as lows sink near 12 degrees.
The arctic air will start leaving by Thursday morning, as temperatures climb into the upper 20s. Skies will be sunny and clear, with lows only dropping to 23 degrees overnight.
Highs will return to a normal 36 degrees Friday, sinking into the mid-20s that evening.
