A Lawrence man is in intensive care after being rescued from his burning home by a police officer, Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said.

Tom Doyle, 53, was taken by helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital with severe smoke inhalation after the fire at his home on Worswick Terrace Monday night. He is in stable condition and being held in the intensive care unit, Fitzpatrick said.
