Traffic is expected to be snarled this afternoon on Route 6 in Barnstable and Yarmouth following a tractor-trailer rollover that spilled fuel oil into the roadway, State Police said.

The truck was driving eastbound on the road at about noon when it rolled over. The truck was carrying home heating oil, State Police said.

At 3:30 p.m., State Police tweeted that the cleanup could last for several more hours and drivers should expect impacts on traffic flow.

The crash punctured the tanks and caused oil to spill on the roadway, State Police said.

State Police, Barnstable police, Barnstable firefighters, and Department of Environmental Protection workers were dispatched to the scene at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The driver was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries, police said.
