Though the Fourth of July is five months away, donations are adding up for the community’s annual fireworks display, said Selectman Jonathan Dickerson, a cochairman of the Marion Fireworks Committee. “We’re getting pretty close to $12,000, and are a bit ahead of where we were last year,” Dickerson said in a phone interview. “The amount we need to raise is about $45,000. We raised that last year, and had a little left over to give us a jump on this year.” Dickerson said the committee would like to have all money raised by May 1 in order to schedule a fireworks company to put on the display, which draws thousands of onlookers to Silvershell Beach. “We’re doing a gala fund-raiser in April, and are kicking around some ideas for more,” he said. The fireworks show is funded solely through donations, with the town incurring none of the expense, he said. The tentative date for this year’s fireworks is July 5, he said. Anyone wanting to donate can send checks to the Marion Fireworks Committee, 13 Atlantis Drive, Marion, MA 02738. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
