Town Meeting recently gave overwhelming approval to a zoning change needed for a proposed Mercedes-Benz dealership. Collection Auto Group of Ohio, operating as M11 Realty, requested the change for its plan to place a 55,000-square-foot luxury auto dealership on Cambridge Street. The vote was 85-15 to approve the rezoning of the land from general industrial to corporate center planned development district. In other action, the meeting appropriated $280,000 to purchase new 64-gallon recycling carts. The containers are intended to boost recycling by enabling the town to move to an automated collection system in which the materials are picked up by trucks with mechanical arms. The state recently approved a $68,900 grant to help Burlington pay for the containers. The meeting also appropriated $101,000 to fund a contract agreement with the Burlington Municipal Employees Association. It approved bylaws regulating door-to-door solicitors and canvassers and enabling the Police Department to conduct state and federal fingerprint-based criminal history checks for license applicants whose activities would bring them into contact with the public.
