The third suspect in the November murder of a Framingham man was arrested Tuesday in Philadelphia, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said today.
Jeremy Rodriguez, 19, of Framingham, faces charges in the Nov. 20 slaying of Juan Lopez, 21, of Framingham.
The two other suspects, Jose Cruz, 16, of Framingham and Bryan Pertarb, 20, of Hudson, were arrested Dec. 18 and arraigned the next day in Framingham District Court. They are currently being held without bail pending their arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court on Feb. 14.
Rodriguez was arraigned Wednesday in a municipal court in Philadelphia on fugitive from justice charges. He is being held without bail and is slated to return to the court Feb. 18 for a rendition hearing.
“Following an extensive search by state and local police, and with the assistance of Philadelphia Police, we have arrested this suspect who we allege was the shooter in this homicide,” Ryan said.
Framingham police received reports of the shooting at a parking lot on Second Street at 10:57 p.m. on Nov. 20. When they arrived, officers found Lopez in the driver’s seat of a car, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
Lopez was transported to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, where he was pronounced dead.
Police allege that Lopez parked his car on Second Street that night to take some marijuana out of the trunk of his car and into the driver’s seat. When Lopez was seated, Rodriguez allegedly approached the car and fired a single gunshot through the driver’s side window, killing Lopez.
The three suspects fled from the scene, police said.
Cruz and Pertarb were found and arrested by Framingham police a month later, but Rodriguez eluded them. Philadelphia police launched an investigation after receiving a tip that he might be hiding there.
“This case is a frightening reminder of the violence that accompanies the business of buying and selling illegal drugs,” Ryan said.
The case is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Framingham police.
