When police responded to an activated burglar alarm at a North Andover convenience store early this morning, they discovered the alleged thief unconscious above the ceiling tiles.
North Andover police were dispatched to Richdale Convenience Store on Chickering Road when the alarm sounded at 12:40 a.m., according to a statement from Lieutenant Charles Gray. After arriving, police noticed footprints in the snow and a smashed front door.
When they went inside with the store’s owner to assess the damage, they discovered Justin Roeger, 26, of North Andover, unresponsive in the drop ceiling, according to the statement. Because of the presence of wires, police were concerned that he may have been electrocuted and National Grid was called to shut off power in the store, the lieutenant said.
Police and paramedics then pulled Roeger down and determined that he was not injured, but rather passed out or fell asleep.
Roeger was transported to Lawrence General Hospital as a precaution and later released to police.
He is to be arraigned today at Lawrence District Court on charges of breaking and entering, malicious damage to property, and larceny for allegedly stealing lottery tickets.Haven Orecchio-Egresitz can be reached at Haven.firstname.lastname@example.org.
