A Westborough man pleaded not guilty to assault charges in Westborough District Court this morning after he allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times in their home Thursday night, according to a spokesman for the Worcester District Attorney’s office.
Daniel Uhlman, 44, was charged with assault to murder, assault and battery, and assault to mayhem, according to spokesman Tim Connolly, and was held without bail.
Westborough police received reports about a stabbing at 1 Haskell St. in Westborough at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived at the home, they found the 72-year-old woman covered in blood with stab wounds to her head and torso, and injuries on her face and left wrist, police said.
The victim was transported to the UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she remains hospitalized with injuries that police said were life-threatening.
The woman told police that her son attacked her. Officers searched the house and found blood in several rooms, but no sign of anyone else there, police said.
A short while later, a Massachusetts Department of Transportation worker notified police that he had seen a man covered in blood walking on East Main Street, about a half mile from the house.
Officers found found Uhlman, with blood on him, at the intersection of East Main and Walker streets and arrested him, police said
Uhlman is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 19 for a dangerousness hearing, said Connolly.
