After a breezy, dry Presidents’ Day, stormy weather will return Tuesday, bringing up to 6 inches of snow by Tuesday evening and scattered rain showers through Friday.
“For Tuesday’s storm, the higher amounts will be to the west near Worcester and up into the Monadnock region with around 6 inches,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Charlie Foley. “There’s a possibility of snow mixing with rain south of Boston near the Cape, which will hold accumulations down to 1 to 2 inches there.”
Snow should begin falling after 10 a.m. Tuesday, accumulating between 2 and 4 inches in Boston before petering out by 7 p.m., forecasters said.
Today will be sunny and breezy, with highs at a below-normal 28 degrees and wind gusts up to 31 miles per hour. Skies will become cloudy tonight as temperatures sink into the upper teens.
Tuesday will be snowy and cool, with highs near 34 degrees; temperatures will drop into the upper 20s overnight.
“There will be showers on Wednesday, but they will be periodic,” Foley said. “It will rain from time to time, and that’s going to be true on through Thursday.”
Scattered rain showers should start falling after noon Wednesday, with mostly cloudy skies and highs near an above-normal 43 degrees. Those showers will clear up by 9 p.m. as the clouds disperse and temperatures sink to 30 degrees.
Thursday will be even warmer, with sunny skies and highs near 44 degrees. The rain will return that evening, dropping scattered showers overnight as temperatures drop to 36 degrees.
Periodic rain showers will continue through Friday, as high temperatures rise to a Spring-like 50 degrees. Cloudy skies will persist until the evening, when low temperatures drop to about 33.
“We’re going from below-normal temperatures, to above-normal between Wednesday and Friday, and then it drops again this weekend,” Foley said. “The warmer temperatures are a good thing, but the bad thing is that with warmer temperatures the frequency of [rain] showers could be a little bit greater.”Catalina Gaitan can be reached at email@example.com.
