Menino being treated for advanced cancer

The Boston Globe is reporting that former mayor Thomas M. Menino has been diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer:

Former mayor Thomas M. Menino has been diagnosed months after leaving office with an advanced form of cancer that has spread to his liver and lymph nodes, a jolting discovery that he described as the most profound challenge of his life.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh reacted to the news about Menino Saturday night in a statement saying, “I’ve never known Tom Menino to back down from a fight, and I don’t expect him to start now. Mayor Menino has always been here for the people of Boston, and we’re behind him today, 100%. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, Angela, their family and many friends.”

Menino served as the the 53rd Mayor of Boston from 1993 to 2014.
