Several police departments were investigating last week whether two men arrested in connection with thefts at the North Suburban YMCA in Woburn may be linked to similar crimes at other YMCAs in the region.

Between Feb. 5 and March 5, at least a dozen YMCA patrons in Andover, Melrose, Reading, Saugus, and Woburn ended workouts to discover that their car keys had been taken from unlocked lockers and their cars — located by the sound of remote locks — plundered for wallets, iPhones, watches, credit cards, and cash.

Stolen credit cards were used quickly at retail stores, including a Mobil gas station in Reading and in several instances at a Target store in Woburn.
