Beginning on Friday, March 21, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the Massachusetts Turnpike through the Prudential Center tunnel in order to enable a project to remove the Prudential Tunnel ceiling and install new ceiling panels where needed. These lane restrictions will begin at 9 p.m. on Fridays through 5 a.m. on Mondays on the weekends of March 21-23; March 28-30; April 4-6; and April 25-27.

According to Mass.gov:

To maintain two-way traffic along the Turnpike during the project, traffic will be shifted to two contra-flow lanes on the opposite side of the roadway. For example, when I-90 westbound lanes are closed inside the Prudential Tunnel, westbound traffic will be directed to the eastbound side of I-90, where there will be two lanes of bi-directional traffic. During the eastbound closure, there will be two lanes provided on the westbound side of I-90.

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) and MassDOT offer several suggestions if drivers plan to use the Massachusetts Turnpike during the affected weekends:

MCCA and MassDOT strongly encourage motorists planning travel along the Massachusetts Turnpike through Boston during these weekends to consider using public transportation, seek alternate routes and allow additional time to travel through the work zone. Motorists should expect to encounter entrance and exit ramp closures in this area during the project. Further details are available on the project website at www.prutunnelproject.info.
