Human Remains Found by Train Tracks Near Somerville High


Update: The Middlesex District Attorney’s office has confirmed human remains were found at the scene early Sunday afternoon:

At approximately 12:45 p.m. today, human remains were discovered near train tracks off School Street in Somerville. Somerville Police and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office are investigating.

Original story: Police are investigating the possible discovery of body parts under the School Street bridge in Somerville, the Somerville News Weekly reports:

On Sunday morning Massachusetts State and Somerville Police positioned officers underneath the School Street Bridge in Somerville while their [sic] conducting an investigation regarding alleged body parts that have been discovered.

The MBTA Police were also at the scene, not far from Somerville City Hall and High School:

A State Police spokesperson confirmed the department provided canine units in the area to assist in an on-going investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. He referred further questions to their office, though messages left seeking comment were not immediately returned Sunday night.

The bridge is about a block from the Sycamore Street home where two men were arrested last January for allegedly beating their roommate to death and dismembering his body, the Globe reports.

The victim, 66-year-old Vincent Lalli, was reportedly found near Dr. Philip O. Coakley Middle School on Washington Street in Norwood.

It is not clear if the search is related to that incident.
