Meaghan Merullo refuses to let a nagging injury get in the way of a sensational freshman season on the diamond at Babson College.

When the first-year third baseman/designated hitter from Winchester tore her left hip labrum in late January during preseason workouts, the reaction could have been one of self-defeat.

Instead, her decision to postpone potential surgery until the summer has garnered results — both on paper and through the reaction of her teammates — that have made a substantial impact with a Beavers squad off to a 10-5 start.

Merullo, a two-sport athlete with a spot on the Babson women’s soccer team, leads the Beavers in batting average (.417) and slugging percentage (.583).
