The Boston Fire Department responded to a home explosion on Hansborough Street in Dorchester late Wednesday night.

The department’s Twitter account indicated that three alarms were ordered in response to an explosion that severely damaged a house and caused a heavy fire at the scene.

Their tweets said twelve people had been treated or transported due to injuries, including two elderly people in serious condition.

At 10:40 p.m., Boston Fire tweeted that the fire had been put out.
